Roots of Empowerement

Psychotherapy

“When we heal our own trauma, individually and collectively, we don’t just heal our bodies.

By refusing to pass on the trauma we inherited,

we help heal the world.”

Background

I am a bilingual (English/Spanish) psychotherapist with experience working with issues ranging from anxiety and depression to trauma, family problems, and relationship issues. I approach treatment in a direct, dynamic, culturally sensitive, and client-focused way. I am particularly interested in issues of diversity, couples, families, and helping you overcome patterns and obstacles that hinder your personal transformation.

My work is grounded in different body-mind approaches. I am a somatic psychotherapist,(Somatic Experiencing Practitioner in training SEP). I have a background in Trauma-Informed Practices, Relational Psychodynamic therapy, and Family System approach. I have dedicated my counseling career to working with individuals, children, adolescents, and families. With my education and clinical training, I'm able to tailor my therapeutic work by focusing on the strengths and needs of each client.

I have worked with a diverse group of people across a wide range of settings which includes school setting, shelters, psychiatric hospitals, social service agencies, and private practice settings. I have worked at all levels of treatment from crisis intervention, brief therapy, partial hospitalization, and individual and family outpatient programs.

My work focuses on helping individuals and couples through periods of high stress and difficulty, finding deeper emotional stability within oneself, reflecting on old patterns and wounds, and building a wider range of emotional expression.

My specialties include relationship issues, immigration and bi-cultural identity, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and sexual identity issues.

I am able and happy to work with you in English or Spanish. In my work, I pay extra attention to the influence of culture, class, race, spirituality, gender and sexual identity as they shape our experience in the world.
